Batu Tersilah

Brunei-Muara

A cornerstone of Brunei’s royal heritage, Batu Tersilah bears the legacy of Brunei’s sultans, inscribed on stone, standing as a revered monument to the nation’s enduring lineage.

Overview

The Batu Tersilah, located near Brunei’s Royal Mausoleum, is a prominent genealogical stone tablet that chronicles the succession of Brunei’s rulers from Sultan Muhammad Shah, the first Sultan, to Sultan Tajuddin. This four-foot-tall stone was erected at the behest of Sultan Muhyiddin and Sultan Husin Kamaluddin in the 17th and 18th centuries. With its intricate inscriptions, the stone serves as both a historical record and a cultural emblem of Brunei’s monarchy. A replica can also be viewed at the Brunei History Centre, where it further highlights the Sultanate’s rich history and significance in Southeast Asia’s cultural landscape.
